Julie Bretland, CEO, Our Mobile Health

Julie founded Our Mobile Health, to improve quality and provide confidence in the digital health sector by identifying, assessing, and curating health apps for app developers and enable health care organisations, to recommend, deploy and ultimately prescribe digital interventions.  She is a regular speaker on health innovation at events like Financial Times Live, was an expert advisor on digital health at the London Health Commission, an active participant on the EU health working group and set up DigitalHealth.London.  Julie studied for her MBA at London Business School as a recipient of the prestigious Celia Atkin Advent scholarship. She was a winner of the Deloitte’s Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Founders Award, and is a founding member of the GSM Association’s ‘Connected Women’ programme. More recently Julie was named by Women in IT Excellence as “Innovator of the Year” and was a finalist for the Everywoman awards for Innovative use of Technology. 

Dr Elin Haf Davies, CEO & Founder, Aparito

Elin founded Aparito in 2014 on the back of 21 years’ clinical
(as Senior Clinical Research Nurse and Trial Administrator, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London) research (PhD, University College London, UK) and regulatory experience (as Scientific Assessor at both the Medicines Health Regulatory Authority (MHRA) and the European Medicine Agency (EMA)). At the EMA Elin was part of the core team responsible for implementing the E.U. Paediatric Regulation which came into force in January 2007. She started her career in nursing, wanting to make a difference in the lives and care of sick children. She founded Aparito as a technical solution to the problem of unpleasant and unhelpful in-hospital monitoring. Elin has raised significant funds for charities that are close to her heart through her passion for adventure.  She has rowed across both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and then sailed across both the Pacific and the Atlantic. 

Nuno Godinho, CTO, Empericus, Executive Vice-President, Product Delivery-Cloud Portfolio, Sage

Nuno is a thought leader in digital transformation and digital health and has championed entrepreneurship in both large corporates and start-ups throughout his professional career. He was part of the team which created Microsoft Azure and worked at GE Healthcare leading all software development and the digital transformation of the company GE Health Cloud.  He is currently Executive Vice President, Product Delivery - Cloud Portfolio at Sage, leading product delivery teams globally, optimising all product delivery teams to provide the best digital experience for customers and adapting business models, ways of working and operations models to deliver a native digital experience.   He mentors start-ups and is board member in multiple digital health companies, including most recently with start-up Empericus,  working as Chief Digital Officer and CTO to create the best platform for sports performance & medicine in the market.  

Eric Kihlstrom, Tech entrepreneur, Aging 2.0 UK Chapter Lead, Former Interim Director, Healthy Ageing Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund

Eric is a successful tech entrepreneur and Ageing 2.0 UK Chapter Lead.  He co-founded KareInn, a provider of electronic care planning software for UK residential care service providers.  Eric is a champion for consumer-driven innovation and is former Interim Director of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (£98 million) aiming to create a consumer-driven marketplace for products & services to keep healthy and living independently in their homes for longer.  Eric is a former Digital Transformation Strategy Director with 27 years of delivering innovation to multi-national corporations as well as rapid growth start-ups. He was part of pioneering team to disrupt telecoms industry in the nineties and continue to deliver transformation via user focus, analytics and lean innovation. 

Dr Chris McGinley, Research Fellow, Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design

Chris is an award-winning people centred designer, researcher and writer. His research interests are based around design ethnography and the role empathy plays to inform research driven people centred design. He has worked in the field of inclusive design and social innovation for over a decade, on a broad range of industry and academic projects that have been successfully commercialized, exhibited and disseminated internationally. He has published extensively in the area of people-centred design, and delivers lectures, workshops and training as a visiting tutor/lecturer in educational settings such as The Imperial College and The Royal College of Art, in addition to delivering executive education in industry and government settings. He is currently a Research Fellow at the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, based at the Royal College of Art, where he leads the Age and Diversity Research space.

Dr Arup Paul, Deputy Chief Medical Director, AXA PPP healthcare

Arup is a London born and trained doctor passionate about achieving excellence through analysis, understanding, design and implementation. He is Deputy Chief Medical Officer at AXA PPP healthcare and has had several roles in both public and private spheres.  He has a Master’s degree in healthcare commissioning and enjoys the study of politics, policy, behavioural economics and change management.

Claire Sanderson, Editor-in-Chief of Women’s Health UK

Claire Sanderson is the Editor-in-Chief of Women’s Health UK. With a 19-year career in national media publishing, her remit is to oversee the strategy and execution of the brand.

The Women’s Health’s audience has grown under Claire’s tenure, posting an unrivalled 12th consecutive growth in ABC circulation figures in 2018. It was also named Consumer Magazine of the Year for the third consecutive year at the prestigious PPA Awards in June 2018. 

Dr Mike Short, CBE, Chief Scientific Adviser at Department for International Trade (DIT)

After 30 years in telecommunications with Telefonica, Mike  joined the Department for International Trade as the department’s first chief scientific adviser in December 2017. Mike leads the science and engineering profession in the department and ensures its policy is informed by the best science, engineering and technical advice. He advises on the technical aspects of future trade deals as DIT looks to create new arrangements following Brexit, and works with the UK’s research, development and academic communities to boost scientific and engineering exports. Mike has over 40 years’ experience in electronics and telecommunications and served as vice president of Telefonica, the parent company of the O2 mobile phone network, for 17 years to December 2016. In this post, he managed the launch of 2G (GSM) and 3G mobile technologies in the UK, and led research and development for Telefonica Europe. His career also includes the promotion of international technical standards in mobile technology, and he is also a former Chairman of the Global GSM Association, the UK Mobile Data Association, and president of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is currently a visiting professor at the universities of Surrey, Coventry, Leeds, Lancaster and Salford, where in recent years he has led the development on collaborations in areas such as smart cities, digital healthcare, cybersecurity and driverless vehicles. He was honoured with a CBE in 2012 for his services to the mobile industry.

Maeve Walsh, Digital Citizen Advocate and Consultant, Former Director of Policy & Advocacy, Corsham Institute

Maeve is a policy and strategy leader, with a background in communications, who has experience at the heart of the UK Government and in the not-for-profit sector. During a 17-year career in Whitehall, she held senior roles in central Departments including Cabinet Office, No10, the Department of Health and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, where she led the team responsible for delivering the UK Digital Strategy. Most recently, she was Director of Policy at Corsham Institute (Ci), a not-for-profit organisation focused on the impact of tech on society. At Ci, she ran their thought leadership programme and led research activities on digital trust, citizen empowerment, and digital skills and lifelong learning, including a community engagement project working with local residents on data rights in the run-up to the implementation of the GDPR. Maeve is now an independent consultant and adviser on digital policy, strategy and government relations, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a parent-governor at her children's primary school.

Expert Group Chair - Tina Woods, Founder & CEO, Collider Health

Tina Woods is CEO and Founder of Collider Health, an organisation that works with corporates, government, start-ups, third sector and investors to accelerate innovation and transform health with sustainable impact at scale.  Tina is an ecosystem architect and builds collaborative networks and strategic partnerships to facilitate smart investment. Tina is chair of Future Health Collective, a multi-disciplinary, cross-sector group geared to foster collaboration and radical innovation in areas of unmet need in health and social care.  She is currently working with Innovate UK on consortia development for the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund for Healthy Ageing (£98 million) and the national Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) AI initiative to build the artificial intelligence ecosystem for the NHS.   She studied genetics at Cornell University in the US and has an MBA from Cass University. Tina also runs ColliderSCIENCE, a social enterprise to inspire your people in science and technology and equip them with the creative skills for the future. She sits on the Gender Equality, Diversity and Education Committee of Imperial College Department of Computing.
