Lise Pape, Founder of Walk with Path
This interview is one of a series of inspirational women leaders in health technology being profiled as part of the Women Entrepreneurs category of the AXA Health Tech & You Awards programme.
I founded Walk with Path, a health tech company focused on solving mobility issues, in 2014. I was originally interested in the area of mobility, having seen my father struggle with Parkinson's disease for many years.
Three years into the journey, I would say that it has been a very exciting and varied experience, constantly forcing me to learn new things and adapt to any upcoming challenge that may arise.
A lot of people ask me if I think I have had any particular challenges due to being a woman. That is a very hard question to answer, as I cannot compare my company, and my solution to having been presented by a man. I feel that I have been given many opportunities, having presented at events and awarded prizes. I most recently met the President of Portugal at a social innovation event.
I think the best advice that I can give to any aspiring entrepreneur is to do it only if you are absolutely committed and willing and able to fight your way through the ups and downs. Determination and commitment are key in my opinion. It's also important to take time for yourself. I tend to read, see friends, or do other creative projects that I enjoy.
I think the future in health tech looks bright. There is so much support for entrepreneurs, and so much to win by doing it. No matter how it goes, you will have learned more along the way than you would have been able to any other way.
